How to choose the right headlamp

If you fall in love with mountaineering or the field, the headlamp is a very important outdoor equipment! Whether it’s hiking on summer nights, hiking in the mountains, or camping in the wild, headlights will make your movement easier and safer. In fact, as long as you grasp the simple # four elements, you can pick out your own headlamp!

1, the choice of lumens

Generally speaking, the situation we use headlights is usually used after the sun goes down in the mountain house or tent to find things, cook food, go to the toilet at night or walk with the team, so basically 20 to 50 lumens is enough (lumen recommendation is only for reference, or some donkey friends like to choose more than 50 lumens). However, if you are the leader walking in the front, it is recommended to use 200 lumens and illuminate the distance of 100 meters or more

2. Headlamp lighting mode

If the headlamp is distinguished by the mode, there are two modes of concentrating and astigmatism (flood light), astigmatism is suitable for use when doing things in close proximity or walking with the team, and the fatigue of the eyes will be reduced relative to the concentrating mode, and the concentrating mode is suitable for irradiation when finding a way in the distance. Some headlights are dual-mode switching, you can pay more attention when purchasing

Some advanced headlights will also have “flashing mode”, “red light mode” and so on. “Flicker mode” can be subdivided into a variety of, such as “flash mode”, “signal mode”, generally used for emergency distress signal use, and “red light mode” is suitable for night vision, and red light will not affect others, at night in the tent or mountain house for bedtime can be cut to red light, toilet or finishing equipment will not disturb others sleep.

3. What is the waterproof level

It is recommended that IPX4 above the anti-water level can be, but in fact, it still depends on the brand, waterproof grade mark is only for reference, if the brand product design structure is not very rigorous, it may still lead to headlamp seepage water damage! # After-sales warranty service is also very important

Waterproof rating

IPX0: No special protection function.

IPX1: prevents water droplets from entering.

IPX2: The tilt of the device is within 15 degrees to avoid water droplets entering.

IPX3: prevent water from entering.

IPX4: Prevents water from entering.

IPX6: Can resist the water column of high pressure spray gun for at least 3 minutes.

IPX7: Resistant to soaking in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.

IPX8: Resistant to continuous immersion in water more than 1 meter deep.

4. About batteries

There are two ways to store power for headlights:

[Discarded battery] : There is a problem with discarded batteries, that is, you will not know how much power is left after use, and whether you will buy a new one the next time you climb the mountain, and it is less environmentally friendly than rechargeable batteries.

[Rechargeable battery] : Rechargeable batteries are mainly “nickel-metal hydride batteries” and “lithium batteries”, the advantage is that it is more able to grasp the power, and more friendly to the environment, and there is another feature, that is, compared with discarded batteries, there will be no battery leakage.
