LED color rendering index

More and more people in the choice of lamps and lanterns, the concept of color rendering index into the selection criteria.

According to the definition of “Architectural Lighting Design Standards”, color rendering refers to the light source compared with the reference standard light source, the light source presents the characteristics of the color of the object. Color rendering index is a measure of the color rendering of the light source, expressed as the degree of conformity between the color of the object under the measured light source and the color of the object under the reference standard light source.

The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) set the color rendering index of sunlight at 100, and stipulated 15 test colors, using R1~R15 to indicate the display index of these 15 colors respectively. Can correctly express the original color of the material need to use a high color rendering index (Ra) of the light source, its value is close to 100, the best color rendering.

General color rendering index, take R1 ~ R8 kinds of standard color rendering index of the average value, recorded as Ra, characterizing the light source color rendering. Special color rendering index selected R9 ~ R15 kinds of standard color samples of the color rendering index, recorded as Ri.

Usually we say that the color rendering index usually refers to the general color rendering index, that is, the value of Ra, according to the “Architectural Lighting Design Standards,” the provisions of the Ra minimum of 80, but from a professional point of view, we also want to consider the special color rendering index.

Among them, the special color rendering index R9 is the ability to display saturated red, when buying LED lamps and lanterns need to pay special attention to the value of R9. The higher the value of R9, the more realistic the color of fruits, flowers, meats, etc. Reduced. If the red light is missing in the light, it will affect the quality of the light environment lighting. So only when Ra and R9 have high values at the same time, the high color rendering of LED lamps can be guaranteed.

Referring to the national specification, when the Ra ≥ 80 and R9 ≥ 0 of the lamps, it can basically meet the color rendering index required for daily activities.

It should be noted that many LED lamps on the market are now sold with negative R9 values, so you need to carefully screen the lamp selection. In addition, if the color rendering index requirements are high, you can choose Ra ≥ 90, R9 ≥ 70 lamps.

Too low lighting color rendering index will affect our eyes on the object color recognition, resulting in a decline or decline in color recognition ability, long-term in the poor color rendering light source, the human eye’s cone cell sensitivity will also be reduced, easy to bring visual fatigue, and even trigger myopia.

Therefore, choosing lamps with high color rendering index can protect our eyes and bring us a more comfortable light environment while improving the color reproduction of objects.
